Composite Bonding

Effective and aesthetic repairs for your smile

Composite bonding is a fast, simple and highly aesthetic way to repair damage and transform the appearance of your teeth. The composite material is able to mimic tooth enamel, can be colour matched to the shade of your natural teeth and bonds directly to the surface of your tooth for a non invasive and pain free restoration.

Why should I have composite bonding?

Composite bonding can be used to repair chips, close small gaps and rebuild damaged teeth. It is also very effective at transforming the size, shape or colour of your smile, providing a quick and easy makeover. We don’t need to remove any of your natural tooth enamel to make way for the treatment, and our skilled restorative dentists accurately build up the shape from scratch.

With composite bonding, there is no need for impressions or preparation. We can repair and improve your teeth in just a single appointment in the practice, enabling you to get on with your daily routines immediately afterwards.

What does the treatment involve?

We begin your appointment by carefully cleaning and drying the tooth or teeth where the composite material will be placed. We apply a special gel to create a rough surface for the material to bond to properly.

The composite material is colour matched to your natural teeth, or used in your chosen shade, and applied in layers. We gradually build up the precise shape and harden the composite using a UV light.

We polish your tooth so your composite bonding looks beautifully smooth, shiny and just like your natural teeth. Your treatment is then complete and we leave you to enjoy your new smile!

Frequently asked questions
How do I look after my composite bonding?

The best way to look after the composite bonding on your tooth is to keep up with a great oral hygiene routine at home, including regular brushing and flossing. The composite material can’t decay, but the tooth underneath still can, so it is important to keep it free from plaque and bacteria. Also make sure you attend regular check up appointments with your dentist so they can keep an eye on your composite bonding.

Is composite bonding treatment painful?

Composite bonding is not at all painful. We don’t need to remove any of your natural tooth structure or enamel to make way for the treatment, and it is completely non invasive, meaning you will feel no pain.

How long does composite bonding last on my tooth?

The amount of time that composite bonding will last on your tooth varies depending on each individual case. On average, you can expect it to last around 5 years, although some patients may find their composite bonding remains problem free for much longer. It is very easy to repair or replace composite bonding, if necessary.

What happens if I change my mind about composite bonding?

composite bonding is a completely reversible process. None of your natural tooth is removed, so if you decide you no longer want the bonding material on your teeth, we can easily and safely remove it. Your teeth will return to the way they were before treatment.

How long do I need to wait to eat after composite bonding treatment?

The composite bonding on your teeth is hardened and set during your appointment, so you don’t have to wait for any length of time before eating. Your dentist may advise you to avoid chewing on that side of your mouth for the rest of the day, to give it time to settle, but this is not always necessary.
